Integrative Supervision
I am a qualified Supervisor and I have a Diploma in Integrative Supervision.
Supervision Model
Integrative psychotherapy describes a psychotherapeutic approach in which elements from different schools of psychotherapy may be used. The generic term, integrative psychotherapy, can be used to describe any multi-modal approach which combines therapies.
What is Supervision?
Supervision is a working alliance between two professionals where supervisees offer an account of their work, reflect on it, receive feedback, and receive guidance if appropriate. The object of this alliance is to enable the worker to gain in ethical competency, confidence and creativity as to give the best possible services to clients. Supervision helps to reduce the risk of serious oversight and helps the therapist concerned to reflect on their own feelings, thoughts, behaviour and general approach with the client.Supervision involves at least four elements: (1) The Supervisor, (2) The Supervisee/Therapist, (3) The Client and (4) a work context.
Choice of Supervisor
For any supervisee the choice of supervisor is critical. It is important that the supervisee seeks out a supervisor who will respect them, will not judge them and will relate to them with what Carl Rogers called ‘unconditional positive regard’. As a supervisor I believe the primary value of supervision comes from having a safe and supportive environment in which the supervisee can build on their own skills and insights as a practitioner, and in which the supervisee can reflect on any aspect of their profession and their client relationships. Safe practice is often demonstrated professionally through the compliance of fulfilling formal guidelines formulated by organizations such as the BACP’s and BABCP Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy. Providing a secure environment for where the supervision is held is important because it provides a safe container for the supervisee. My residential clinic is a comfortable warm room, clean and uncluttered, and a private space that’s uninterrupted and where the supervisee can feel valued and supported.
The supervisee needs to attend 1.5 hours of supervision per month in accordance with accreditation compliance and they can be held weekly, fortnightly or monthly.
